Origins of Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do is a hybrid martial arts system developed by the legendary Bruce Lee.  The idea started in the 1960's when Bruce realized that there was a need for a more combat worthy style.  His methods focused on minimal movement with maximum effect and extreme speed.

From Jun Fan to Contemporary

Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do is the name given to the original JKD as created by Bruce Lee himself.  Since then, students of Lee have progressed the art into what it has become today.  The world of Progressive Fighting Systems has come to call the new and everchanging product Contemporary Jeet Kune Do.  This product focuses on situations that are broken down into ranges (Kicking, Punching, Trapping and Grappling), with techniques flowing smoothly between them.

Incorporation of the Arts

Lee's original style was based heavily on western boxing and fencing.  These concepts are still the foundation of what Contemporary JKD has to offer.  However, we have now incorporated many different arts into the mix.  Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jujitsu, Tai Chi, Kina Mutai, and Wing Chun also have roots in the contemporary art.  We do not teach any sport techniques or forms... our teachings are strictly self-defense in nature.

Our Lineage

The great art was created by Bruce Lee himself.  While he was researching and developing his style he had a handfull of students.  One of which was Dan Inosanto.  Master Inosanto continued to progress the art after Lee's death.  From there, he trained Paul Vunak as one of his main students.  Vunak has led the charge of molding Contemporary JKD into what it is today with the development of  Descendants of the MastersTMToday DOM is the leader in Contemporary Jeet Kune Do training.  You have the unique opportunity to train with members of the direct lineage of Bruce Lee himself.
